Where to Buy: Tourist Information Centers or Prague Public Transport (DPP) counters in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 Arrivals.

Seniors (65+): Travel for free on Prague city transport (excluding the AE bus) by showing a valid Passport or ID.

The Validation Rule

If you buy a paper ticket, you must insert it into the yellow validation machines to “stamp” it upon entering the metro or boarding a bus/tram. Failure to validate results in heavy fines. Seniors: While free, you must carry your Passport at all times; “showing your face” is not enough for inspectors.

Public Transit

Airport Express (AE) Bus

Prague Airport has no direct train link. The Airport Express (AE) bus connects the airport to Praha Hlavní Nádraží in about 40 minutes.

  • Price: 200 CZK (adult), 100 CZK (children 6–15 / dogs). Children under 6 travel free. Luggage is free.
  • Tickets: Buy from the driver (contactless card accepted) or at the Visitor Centre in Arrivals.

Public Bus & Metro

Alternatively, take Trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín (Metro Line A) for 39–50 CZK, reaching the centre in about 45 minutes. Local Bus 191 and Bus 100 provide cheaper, slower links to other Metro lines.

Low-Floor Accessibility

All Prague airport buses are “low-floor.” Look for the middle door marked with a wheelchair/stroller icon for the widest entry and level access to luggage racks.

Accessibility & Safety

Prague Airport provides free assistance for passengers with reduced mobility or disabilities. Book through your airline at least 36 hours before departure. There are 20 assistance contact points throughout the terminals.

PRG Special Assistance
Cobblestones

While the airport and station are modern, Prague’s Old Town is paved with rough cobblestones. Ensure your hotel has an elevator and that your taxi can drop you at the front door if you have limited mobility.

Prague is safe, but transit hubs attract scams.

  1. Exchange Scam: Never exchange money with individuals approaching you in terminals. They often pass counterfeit notes or out-of-circulation currency.
  1. Petition/Donation Scam: Be wary of people asking you to sign petitions for charities; they will aggressively demand cash donations afterwards.

Arrival

Official Taxi

The official taxi service at Václav Havel Airport is operated exclusively by Uber. Vehicles wait directly in front of the arrivals halls at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 — no separate rank to locate. Expect to pay 650–850 CZK to the city centre (25–40 min). You can book via the Uber app, self-service kiosks in the arrivals hall, or at staffed counters (open 07:00–21:00). After ordering you receive a 6-digit PIN code to confirm your driver. Do not accept unsolicited offers from drivers inside the terminal.

Rideshare

Pickup (Václav Havel Airport)

Follow 'Ride-Shares' pictograms from the arrivals hall to the short-stay car park. Both Bolt and Uber serve this area — Bolt is typically 15–25% cheaper.

550–700 CZK to city centre (Bolt)

ATMs and Currency

ATMs are plentiful at both hubs. The Czech currency is the koruna (CZK) — Czechia is an EU member but has not adopted the euro. When paying by card or withdrawing cash, always choose Local Currency (CZK) to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion fees of 5–10%.

Avoid 'Euronet' ATMs

Avoid blue and yellow Euronet ATMs found at both the Airport and Train Station. They charge exorbitant fees. Use bank-affiliated machines like ČSOB, KB, AirBank, or Česká spořitelna.

Departure

Arrival & Check-In

Arrive at Terminal 1 (non-Schengen: UK, USA, Asia) or Terminal 2 (Schengen: EU countries). Allow at least 2 hours before departure — 3 hours for intercontinental flights. Check-in counters close 40 minutes before scheduled departure. Online check-in and self-service kiosks are available in both terminals.

Security Controls

Security & Screening

Terminal 1 (non-Schengen): Standard EU rules apply. Liquids must be in containers of 100ml or less, packed in a single 1-litre transparent bag. Large electronics (laptops, tablets) must be removed from your bag. Security screening at T1 takes place at each individual gate, not a central checkpoint.

Terminal 2 (Schengen): Most lanes use CT scanners — at those lanes, electronics can stay in your bag and you may carry one additional container up to 2 litres. Some older lanes still require the standard 100ml bag. Check the sign at your lane.

Security Screening — Prague Airport

Passport Control

From Terminal 1 (non-Schengen): Proceed through passport control after check-in. EU/EEA citizens and eligible biometric passport holders may use EasyGO automated e-gates.

From Terminal 2 (Schengen): No passport control. Proceed directly to the central security checkpoint.

VAT Refunds

Non-EU residents may claim a VAT refund on purchases over CZK 2,000 (same day, single store). The process applies at Terminal 1 only.

Process

  1. Use the self-service kiosk in the T1 departure hall to validate your form electronically.
  2. Collect your refund at the Interchange exchange office in T1 — cash (CZK or foreign currency) or credit card refund via kiosk.
Allow Up to 3 Hours

The full VAT refund process — kiosk, customs check, and payout — takes approximately 3 hours. Keep purchased goods in hand luggage; they must be available for customs inspection and cannot be in checked baggage.
