Overview
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) is Spain’s second-busiest international hub, featuring two main terminals.
Barcelona Sants is the city’s primary railway station, serving as the main hub for high-speed (AVE), long-distance, and regional trains.
Port de Barcelona is Europe’s leading cruise port, with seven international passenger terminals on Moll Adossat and the Barcelona Quay (World Trade Center). Moll Adossat handles large cruise ships about 4 km south of Plaça de Catalunya; the World Trade Center terminal serves smaller vessels and is a 10-minute walk from La Rambla.
Transfer Options
The following transport options are available from/to Barcelona Airport:
Spain has a history of transit strikes. TMB metro/bus routes (L9 Sud) and the Aerobús can be disrupted with little notice. Check the TMB service status before you travel. The Official Taxi is the reliable fallback when public transport is suspended.
The following transport options are available from/to Barcelona Sants station:
Rodalies commuter trains, including the R2 Nord from the airport, are frequently disrupted by strikes and technical faults. Check the Renfe Rodalies Barcelona page before you travel. Metro L3/L5 or an Official Taxi are reliable fallbacks.
The following transport options are available from/to Port de Barcelona:
Luggage Storage
Operated by Excess Baggage Company in T1 (Floor 0).
Official Consigna lockers on Level -1 (Car Park).
Alternative: Look for Bags&Go near Sants for human-assisted storage if you find automated lockers confusing.
There are no staffed or self-service luggage lockers inside the cruise terminals at this time.
Bags&Go is the only provider authorized by Port de Barcelona. Staff meet you at the ship exit at every terminal (Moll Adossat A–H and World Trade Center). Advance booking required.

Public Transit
Train (R2 Nord)
The R2 Nord train costs €5.05 (4-zone single) or counts as Zone 1 if using a T-casual. It takes 27 minutes to reach Passeig de Gràcia. The station is located only at Terminal 2.
Source: Rodalies de CatalunyaMetro (L9 Sud)
Costs €5.90 for a special airport ticket (unless using a Hola Barcelona card). It is frequent but requires a transfer at Torrassa to reach the city center, taking roughly 50 minutes. You must scan your ticket both when entering and exiting.
Source: TMB - Airport TicketExpress Bus
Aerobús: Costs €7.75 one-way or €13.30 return. It features dedicated luggage racks and takes 35 minutes to reach Plaça de Catalunya. A1 Bus serves Terminal 1; A2 Bus serves Terminal 2.
Source: Aerobús Barcelona - FaresIf you land at Terminal 1, you must take the free green shuttle bus to Terminal 2 to access the train. For Aerobús, ensure you board the correct line (A1 or A2) for your terminal.
Metro & Tram
The Metro is the fastest way to reach central hubs like Plaça de Catalunya (10–15 mins). A single ticket is €2.90, but the T-casual is recommended.
Source: TMB - Fares- Follow “M” signs to the red TMB ticket machines.
- Select the English flag icon.
- Choose your card (e.g., T-casual Zone 1). Note: The machine will issue a cardboard T-mobilitat card (one-time €0.50 fee).
- Validation: Tap your card against the white sensor on the turnstile.
City Bus
The bus terminal is at the Plaça dels Països Catalans exit. You can pay for single journeys using contactless credit/debit cards on the bus.
Source: TMB - Bank Card ValidationWithin Sants, the walk to the L3 (Green) line is significantly longer than the L5 (Blue); use L5 if possible. Always board buses through the front door and validate immediately.
T3 Cruise Bus
The T3 Cruise Bus (formerly Portbús) runs from Portal de la Pau — at the foot of La Rambla near the Columbus Monument — to Moll Adossat terminals A, B, C, and D. A one-way ticket costs €3; a day ticket is €4.50. Buy tickets online at cruisebus.barcelona or onboard. The bus only operates on days when cruise ships are docked (08:00–20:30, approximately every 30 minutes). It is adapted for passengers with reduced mobility.
Source: Cruise Bus Barcelona - TicketsMetro (L3)
The nearest metro stop is Drassanes (L3 Green line), about a 10-minute walk from the World Trade Center terminal. It is not practical for passengers at Moll Adossat — take the T3 Cruise Bus instead and alight at the Drassanes stop to connect to the metro. A single ticket is €2.90; a T-casual or Hola Barcelona card is recommended if you plan to use public transit during your stay.
Source: TMB - Accessing Barcelona from the portThe T3 Cruise Bus only operates when cruise ships are at berth. If your ship arrives very early or departs late, confirm operating times before relying on it. Outside those hours, a taxi is your most reliable option.
Official Taxi
Official Taxi colors are black and yellow. Follow “Taxi” signs to the lower levels. Fare to center: €30–€40. There is a mandatory €4.60 airport supplement and a minimum fare of €21.
Official Taxi colors are black and yellow. Follow Taxi signs to the rank at Plaça dels Països Catalans. There is a €2.55 station pickup surcharge.
Official Taxi colors are black and yellow. Follow taxi signs to the rank directly outside your terminal exit — port staff coordinate taxi supply with each ship arrival. Approximate fares: Las Ramblas area €10–€15 (approx. 10 min); Sagrada Família €20–€25. A mandatory €4.60 Moll Adossat surcharge applies in both directions. When several large ships dock simultaneously, queues can reach 30–60 minutes.
Taxi drivers must display a list of official surcharges (station pickup, luggage, night hours) on a sticker on the rear passenger window. If the price seems incorrect, ask for a printed receipt (“Recibo”).
Rideshare
Cabify, Freenow, and Uber: Follow the VTC (black and yellow) signs from the Arrivals hall, exit the terminal, and cross the pedestrian bridge to T1 Parking.
Cabify, Freenow, and Uber: Exit Terminal 2C and follow the covered outdoor walkway to the left for approximately 8 minutes until you reach the Parking Express directly in front of Terminal 2B.
Cabify, Freenow, and Uber: Follow signs for Exit C (Carrer de Tarragona). Walk across the square to the second pavement.
There is no designated VTC pickup area at the Moll Adossat terminals. Cabify, Freenow, and Uber operate in Barcelona and can be pre-booked for drop-off at the port, but on-demand pickups have no confirmed meeting point at the terminals. Official metered taxis at the rank outside your terminal are the most practical on-demand option from Port de Barcelona.
Licensed rideshare vehicles (VTC) in Spain must display a blue license plate at the rear. Always verify this matches your app for safety.
ATMs and Currency
Always choose “Decline Conversion” at ATMs and pay in Euros. Letting the ATM do the conversion to your home currency (USD/CAD/GBP) can cost an extra 5-10% in hidden fees.
There are no ATMs confirmed inside the Moll Adossat terminals. Terminal A has a foreign exchange desk. The nearest cash machines are at Maremagnum shopping centre and along Las Ramblas, both reachable via the Cruise Bus (€3, approx. 10 min).

Accessibility
All seven cruise terminals at Port de Barcelona are fully adapted for passengers with reduced mobility — lifts, widened doors, accessible toilets, and ramps throughout. There is no dedicated assistance desk in the terminals; contact your cruise line at the time of booking to arrange a meet-and-assist at the terminal. Under EU maritime passenger regulations, terminal operators must provide free assistance to passengers with disabilities without discrimination.

Barcelona is one of Europe’s top pickpocket destinations — stay alert near terminal exits and in the taxi queue after disembarkation. Use only the official taxi rank at your terminal; do not accept rides from anyone approaching you inside or outside the building. Keep bags close when waiting for luggage.

Arrival & Check-In
Arrival Time
For US/Canada bound flights, arrive 3 hours early. Terminal 1 is massive; walking to Gates D or E (Non-Schengen) can take 20 minutes. For European flights, 2 hours is sufficient.
Check-in
Check-in counters are on Floor 3 in Terminal 1 and Floor 0 in Terminal 2.
Arrival Time
For high-speed trains (AVE, OUIGO, Iryo), arrive at least 45 minutes before departure to clear security. For local regional trains (Rodalies), 15 minutes is sufficient.
Source: Renfe Boarding & AccessArrival Time
For Balearic Islands and Italy ferries, arrive 2 hours before departure. For Morocco (Tangier, Nador) ferries, arrive at least 3 hours early — boarding closes 1 hour before the scheduled sailing. Passengers bringing a vehicle on Grimaldi Lines Morocco routes must check in at least 6 hours before sailing.
Check-in
Each operator has its own terminal at Moll Adossat. Bring a valid ID card for EU-bound routes (Balearics, Italy); a passport is required for Morocco. Foot passengers wait in the terminal lounge for a boarding announcement. Vehicle passengers show their ticket at the gate and queue in the assigned boarding lane.

Source: GNV — Boarding ProceduresHigh-speed platform numbers are often announced only 20 minutes before departure; boarding closes strictly 2 minutes before the train leaves. At the airport, staff are accommodating to passengers with limited mobility in security lanes.
VAT Refunds
Location
In Terminal 1, DIVA kiosks are on Floor 3, near the security entrance. In Terminal 2, they are in the T2B check-in hall.
Process (DIVA System)
- Scan tax-free forms at a DIVA kiosk before checking bags. Kiosks are on Floor 3 in T1 and in the T2B check-in hall.
- If the screen turns green, you are validated. If red, see the Civil Guard officer adjacent.
- Collect cash or credit refunds at Global Blue or Planet desks after passing through security.
Customs officers may inspect purchases. Keep high-value items in your carry-on; if you pack them in checked luggage, you must visit the DIVA kiosk before the airline check-in counter.
Non-EU Departures (Morocco Only)
VAT refunds apply only on departures to Morocco (Tangier, Nador), which exit the EU. Ferries to Italy and the Balearic Islands are intra-EU routes — no VAT refund applies.
Process (DIVA System)
Before checking in your luggage at the port, validate your Electronic Refund Documents (ERD) at the DIVA kiosks marked in the terminal. Bring your passport, the goods purchased, and your boarding ticket. Refunds are issued by your Tax Free provider after validation.
